How to Measure Your Pond
- Measure the longest length and the widest width at the top edge.
- Measure the deepest point. Use the deepest point, not the average.
- Digging a new pond? Measure after you dig. Holes usually come out a little bigger than planned.
45 Mil or 60 Mil?
Choose 60 mil if any of these are true:
- Boulders or big rocks will sit on the liner.
- Cattle, horses, or other animals will walk into the pond.
- People will swim or wade in it, or it's a public site.
- The ground is sharp rock or shale, or full of tree roots you can't clear.
If none are true, choose 45 mil with underlayment.
Why Underlayment
Underlayment goes under the liner and protects it from rocks and roots. You need the same amount of underlayment as liner. LifeGuard liner is warrantied for life when it's installed with UnderGuard underlayment, and for 25 years without it.
When Your Pond Is Bigger Than One Sheet
Pond liner is made in flat sheets and shipped rolled up. Our largest 45 mil sheet is 50 by 200 feet, and our largest 60 mil sheet is 50 by 100 feet.
If your pond needs more liner than one sheet, two or more sheets are overlapped and bonded together with seam tape and seam primer. This is called seaming, and it makes a watertight joint. Request a quote and we'll figure out the sheet sizes and seam supplies for your pond.
What to Expect When Your Liner Arrives
Pond liner is heavy, so it ships on a freight truck instead of with a regular parcel carrier. We'll set up the delivery with you when you order, so you'll know when it's coming.
Plan to have a few people or some equipment on hand to help unload the roll. Before you sign for it, take a quick look at the roll. If anything looks damaged, we'd recommend refusing the delivery and giving us a call so we can help from there.
